Somfy Lends a Helping Hand

Somfy recently partnered with Habitat for Humanity to assist in renovating a refuge for women and children escaping domestic violence and/or experiencing long-term homelessness.

A group of volunteers from the Somfy Oceania team painted a four-bedroom house over a two-day period.

Somfy Oceania’s Marketing commended the team for stepping out of their comfort zone to help those in need. “It was tough work, especially when you’re used to sitting behind a computer all day, but that’s what made it so rewarding. I had a sore wrist after two days of painting but it was just a reminder of how lucky we are to be in the position to help those who need it most.”

“It was a great bonding day, especially for all of us new employees,” said, Commercial Specification Manager for Somfy Oceania. “I think we all got a lot of value out of it and it is such a great cause. It feels very worthwhile to help make these families safe.”

Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organisation which has helped close to ten million people obtain safe and decent housing, partnered with the Women’s and Girl’s Emergency Centre (WAGEC) on this project, to support homeless women and their children.

“The work of volunteer teams and financial support from Somfy provides essential ongoing support for the Habitat for Humanity volunteer program,” said Dean Hart, Habitat for Humanity NSW’s Construction Manager. “The painting and repair work completed by volunteers significantly improves accommodation and support services for women and children who are homeless - often due to domestic violence. The support from Somfy also supports the broader work of Habitat across the world. We build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.”

Somfy supports projects like this on a global scale through Somfy Foundation. The corporate foundation is committed to helping people suffering from poor housing situations all over the world with both financial support and a human helping hand.

“It was my privilege to be able to assist Habitat for Humanity,” said Somfy’s Supply Chain Manager Michael Tosi. “Each of us has a duty to help those less fortunate than us, or aid those of us who find ourselves in a time of need.”

Mary added, “we are so grateful for the opportunity we have to be involved in these volunteer days with Habitat for Humanity every year. Having the ability to give back to our local community is invaluable.”
